Spotlight on a “Tennessee School Social Worker”
September’s Spotlight TN School Social Worker is Juli Cunningham!
Juli Cunningham has been employed with Knox County Schools for 11 years. Growing up in a single parent home has inspired Juli to work with young people so that she could serve has an extra support so many students need. She wanted to encourage students to achieve academic and life success! Her fondest memory is working with a student consistently from K-9th grade, with many interventions and extensive social/emotional support and running into her recently in her ROTC uniform ready to graduate high school.
A piece of advice Juli would like to share with new school social workers is to “Take care of yourself because students need for you to ready to care for them! Modeling self-care is an important aspect of promoting individual social/emotional health.”
Juli is a graduate of University of Tennessee and holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Social Work. She also has her license of school social work and has been a member of TASSA for 10 years. Juli is married and has 11-year-old triplets (Emma, Laura, Harrison). In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, fishing and any other outdoor activity with her family! She is also the social event planner for the Knox County Department. An interesting fact about Juli is that she is Canadian!
